Winter in Moab: Best Things to Do, Trails & Pet-Friendly Tips

  • Posted on

Winter is one of Moab’s best-kept secrets. Cooler temperatures, fewer crowds, dramatic desert light, and miles of red rock scenery make this season perfect for hiking, sightseeing, and slowing down just enough to truly experience the landscape.

At Angel Rock Rentals of Moab, we host guests year-round and love helping visitors discover what makes Moab special—especially in the winter months.

Why Winter Is the Best Time to Visit Moab

If you’ve only experienced Moab during peak season, winter will surprise you—in the best way.

Winter perks include:

  • Comfortable daytime temperatures for hiking and exploring
  • Fewer visitors at Arches and Canyonlands National Parks
  • Incredible sunrise and sunset colors against red rock cliffs
  • Easier restaurant access and quieter trails
  • Stunning photo opportunities with snow-dusted sandstone

Whether you’re planning a relaxing getaway or an adventure-filled trip, winter delivers the perfect balance.

Trail Spotlight: Hidden Valley Trail (Walking Distance!)

One of our favorite winter hikes is Hidden Valley, and the best part? It’s within walking distance of our townhomes.

Trail Highlights:

  • Sweeping views of the Moab Valley and Behind the Rocks
  • Peaceful terrain with wide-open vistas
  • Connects to the Moab Rim four-wheel-drive trail

Trail Details:

  • Length: Approximately 2 miles to the pass (3 hours round trip)
  • Trailhead: Drive 3 miles south from Moab on US-191, turn right onto Angel Rock Road, then right on Rimrock Road to the parking area

In the summer, much of this trail is shaded in the late afternoon—another reason it’s great year-round.

πŸ—ΊοΈ Each Angel Rock Rentals unit includes a printed hiking guide with trail descriptions and directions for Hidden Valley, Corona Arch, Moab Rim, Grandstaff Canyon (Morning Glory Bridge), Portal Overlook, Moonflower Canyon,Cable Arch and more.
